Typically I choose my outfit the night before, a routine I fell into during my first years of college to save a couple extra minutes of sleep the next morning. However, after an exciting, late night the last thing I wanted to do was search through my clothes while dreaming of my pillow.
Riffling through my closet early the next morning, I wasn’t clicking with any of my clothes. I felt extra edgy, what could I wear to represent that?
Every woman has heard it- high heels are nothing but trouble. Deformed feet, back pain, and shortened calve muscles to name a few problems instigated by them.
But, as a 20-something woman I would gladly choose a day of aching feet and lower back pain to wear the beautiful stilettos and wedges gracing my closet. There is a sense of allure and excitement felt when you slip on pair of sky-high heels, ready to face the world.
Even after repeating “I am only here to pick up a birthday gift, I will not buy anything for myself” several thousand times, I still managed to walk out of the mall with two beautiful midi skirts.
Drifting through the mall, my eyes slowly locked onto a gorgeous black midi skirt within a boutique, Posh Love. Lucky for me it was my size and the LAST one! Before checking out, another midi skirt caught my eye. I just couldn’t stop! Two midi skirts later…
I was never one for math. I understood the lessons and usually got a decent grade on tests, however, it never tickled my fancy. Nevertheless, when I see complex, geometric patterns on a dress I get more excited than a mathematician solving an impossible quadratic equation. I love pieces of clothing that have stimulation and buzz. Flashy shapes, colors, and textures attract me like Einstein to a mass-energy formula.
Let me explain the weather this past week…
Tuesday: Thunder and rain
Wednesday: High winds, and more rain
Thursday: Nonstop downpour of rain
Today: Morning and evening rain
So, how can I dress fashionable for the weather? By adding an adorable umbrella to my outfit!
What do neon yellow, geometric patterns, and denim have in common? They make for a fantastic outfit! Denim shirts are a staple for every closet. I personally own four, all of varying shades; ranging from dark wash with studs, to pale and lightweight.
For this particular outfit I used my medium washed Else denim button up and added a RACHEL Rachel Roy geometric skirt, both from Macy’s clearance last summer. The skirt is made of a thicker, sweater material, giving the outfit a relaxed feeling. You can always tell when a woman feels relaxed and comfortable in an outfit, it shines through.
There are not many times that you can attend a black tie event, especially when you are on a tighter budget. So, when I was given the chance to snag two tickets to the annual Chair Affair After Glow Party, supporting the local Boys and Girls Club, I jumped at the chance.
As always, I rushed to Macy’s for a last minute formal dress and accessories. Scouring through the racks I quickly became discouraged. There was not much to choose from, and the sizes left behind were 10x too large. Then a hint of sparkle caught my eye buried within several dresses. My heart leapt with excitement as I pulled out a stunning clearance gown IN MY SIZE! In addition, I found a beautiful clearance bracelet and earrings to match perfectly. With the help of reduced prices and a 25% off coupon, I got my entire outfit for less than $110 that would have normally been $400! You can’t beat 75% savings!
Layering black on top of more black can be an easy and chic look. Nevertheless, there is a thin line between boring and fashionable with monochromatic black outfits. So, how do I keep my outfits on the “chic” side of the line? One word- accessories! Add a little bling around the neck and wrists, then throw on a colorful pair of shoes.
I have a thing for the color black, the perfect neutral. Add a bright pop of color or keep it monochromatic, it’s the easiest color. The way I see it, black is the new black.
This outfit was a simple transition from work to play, especially with the structured motorcycle jacket. I added small touches of gold in the accessories, another favorite staple color of mine.
