Embrace the cape!

With the winter chill arriving in Minnesota quicker than I hoped, I needed a new way to stay warm and fashionable. I love my down feather Calvin Klein coat, however, it becomes quite monotonous when worn every single day. I wanted to switch it up occasionally- try a new trend other than a long black coat.

I have already seen several women on the street flaunting their flowing capes (or as some might call a poncho). Could this new fad be the piece of clothing to break up my chilly day boredom?

So, it brings us to today- I bought a cape.

This particular one I found while browsing SheIn, a website that offers fashionable clothes at steep discounts. I figured I would purchase one cape and see if the trend was for me.

All I have to say is the cape is everything I had hoped it to be and more. The cape is warm and stylish, not to mention comfortable and versatile- exactly what I was hoping to achieve. I am a true cape lover now- it also helps to receive several compliments while wearing it.

Why stop at buying just one cape? I found other options to potentially add to my closet:

Western influence and some fringe from Forever 21- http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?br=F21&category=sweater&productid=2000142655

A sophisticated plaid look from Forever 21- http://www.forever21.com/product/product_oos.aspx?br=f21&category=outerwear_coats-and-jackets&productid=2000099685

Faux fur for the perfect night look from Michael Kors- http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/michael-michael-kors-faux-fur-cape?ID=2252555&CategoryID=269&LinkType=#fn=sp%3D1%26spc%3D406%26slotId%3D23%26kws%3Dcape

Don’t fear the cape, embrace it!

I’m Back… Promise!

Hello all my lovely followers! Sorry for the slight hiatus, I promise I have a good excuse. If you have been following my Instagram, you’ll have noticed I was making waves in the community.

From July through late September I was planning, preparing, and directing Style on the Plaza– an annual fashion show that showcases local businesses and highlights the community’s unique style. This was my first, of hopefully many, shows that I directed. I have been in a whirlwind of excitement and stress as the last several months have been strictly focused on planning this event. There was barely time to stop for food and sleep. But, in the end, it was COMPLETELY worth it.

I even became a “local celebrity” after making the cover photo for Rochester Magazine. It gets slightly weird seeing your face on every street corner though…

Next year I hope to spotlight more on the blog- discuss the process, talk about my method for choosing clothes and merchandise, and vent about all the craziness behind the scenes. Now that I have my groove it will be a whole lot easier… I’m hoping.

Just wanted to give a quick update that I’ll be back again, posting at least once a week. This is my favorite season, so I know there will be lots to talk about. Crazy to think my blog is already approaching a year old! Where has the time gone?

Keep an eye out again this week for another post- fall necessities, maybe?

Peace, love, and fashion happiness,

Never Stop Adding to the Shoe Collection

Every woman has heard it- high heels are nothing but trouble. Deformed feet, back pain, and shortened calve muscles to name a few problems instigated by them.

But, as a 20-something woman I would gladly choose a day of aching feet and lower back pain to wear the beautiful stilettos and wedges gracing my closet. There is a sense of allure and excitement felt when you slip on pair of sky-high heels, ready to face the world.

I have several go-to heels, and I can’t help but search for more! Here are several pairs I’m hoping to add {soon} to my never-ending collection, all within a small budget, except one pair (you always have to dream)…

Jessica Simpson Chandra Mule in New Colbalt- pairs perfectly with bermuda shorts or a skater dress for an evening out.

One Little Song White High Heel Sandals– excellent for summer days exploring a new city in crisp, patterned shorts or a romper.

Steve Madden Stecy Ankle Strap Heels in Rose Gold- now I can take my love for rose gold jewelry to my feet; fantastic for dressing up boyfriend jeans or a LBD.

Vince Camuto Abbia Booties– the perfect amount of “tough chick” for a rocking day-to-night summer outfit.

And for that one splurge… I’ve been dreaming of this pair for years, Christian Louboutin So Kate Pumps in Nude. Nothing screams “I have my life together” like a polished and perfected pair of designer nude pumps.

Rainy days and fun umbrellas

Let me explain the weather this past week…

Monday: Rain
Tuesday: Thunder and rain
Wednesday: High winds, and more rain
Thursday: Nonstop downpour of rain
Today: Morning and evening rain

So, how can I dress fashionable for the weather? By adding an adorable umbrella to my outfit!

In a world of black, white, and blue mundane umbrellas bobbing down the street, I like to stand out with bright colors and patterns. I have two umbrellas for my particular outfits and moods: a bright multi-colored polka dot and my great-grandma’s colorful stripped Coach.

Polka-Dot-Umbrella1Rain-Coach-UmbrellaI can remember the excitement I had as a child walking to elementary school with my new Lisa Frank umbrella, basking in all the compliments and jealous looks from other girls. At what age did all the fun umbrellas disappear?

Wandering down the street with an adorable umbrella held above my head sounds like more fun than walking solemnly through the covered skyways; it brings back my inner child. Who doesn’t like to stand out in a world of monotony?

Keep calm and dance in the rain!

Peace, love, and fashion happiness,

Lauren

More studded shoes finding their way into my closet

I must admit two things about myself…

  1. I cannot pass up a good deal
  2. I am a shoe addict

Because of these character traits I acquired two more beautiful studded pairs of shoes for my ever-growing closet.

Mom, if you are reading this, before you roll your eyes at my money spending habits, the shoes were only $15 each! Thank you Charlotte Russe for the amazing sale prices that I stumble upon at dreadfully late hours of the night.

The two pairs I purchased are identical style, but different colors, red and nude. The red is a perfect pop of color, especially with cuffed boyfriend jeans, while the nude is classic and easy to coordinate. They are durable and comfortable, excellent options for a working girl looking to make a fashion statement. Not to mention the studded style is HOT right now thanks to their Valentino look-alike.

Although the last minute deal I snagged is unfortunately done, there is a new sale  on the website offering a great reduction.

Grab a pair before you miss out!

Birthday Treat For My Feet

Today is my birthday, so I decided to treat myself to a new pair of shoes. A group of friends and I are heading to a local winery, Four Daughters, for a relaxed evening of good laughs, mouth-watering food, and amazing wine. It was obvious that a new pair of shoes was necessary.

I have been mourning over the price of the Valentino ‘Rockstud’ Pumps for months, disappointed they would never be attached to my feet. However, after late night browsing online, I stumbled upon a pair of similar heels from LuLu‘s. Their price was perfect for a small budget like mine, and they looked practically identical! I ALMOST prefer the LuLu’s pair over the Valentino because of the heel height. The higher the heel the better, as I always say.

I immediately ordered them and have been patiently awaiting their arrival; the anticipation growing each day that passed without them being dropped off on my doorstep.

Finally, yesterday was the day! After haphazardly ripping open the box with full blown excitement, a beautiful pair of stone studded t-strap pointed heels emerged, just as perfect as they looked online.

I am extremely pleased with the price, fit, and style of these shoes. A little off-brand never hurt anyone, especially when it is as lovely as this pair that I’m about to parade around town in.

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my feet!

Peace, love, and fashion happiness,

Lauren

ps I’ll be posting more pictures on my Instagram later tonight, @outfitaday365.

UPDATE:

Here is the gorgeous daytime outfit I have assembled to display my new heels around town. Not to mention it’s 80 degrees and sunny, one of the most beautiful days this year. Happy me!

Standing out in a world of jeans and t-shirts

The other day while wearing this particular outfit around town, I had several individuals ask me, “Where are you going all dressed up?”

IMG_4021

I guess wearing anything other than jeans and a t-shirt sparks curiosity. When I “dress up” I feel accomplished and polished, ready for what the day has to throw at me. Yes, I do wear jeans and cozy clothes as some may ask, especially on Sunday mornings. However, I feel most comfortable in a a full bodied skirt and a pair of heels. And, no it does not cost a fortune to dress this way. I just purchased this adorable Tiffany blue skirt for $33 at a local boutique, and the button up shirt and heels are both from Forever 21, priced less than $20 each.

Don’t feel ashamed or intimated to throw on something other than an overused, old pair of jeans. What’s the worst that can happen? You’ll end up being the best dressed in the room.

Just as Oscar Wilde says, “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.”

Peace, love, and fashion happiness,

Lauren
