Three things to NEVER wear to Thanksgiving

Holiday gatherings are filled with family, love, and food- lots and LOTS of food! Here’s the dilemma: you want to look cute AND comfortable when feasting on Grandma’s turkey. And you not have to sacrifice one for the other. What you wear can be just as important as what you are piling upon your plate.

Here are a three things to NEVER wear on Thanksgiving (or any other family gathering) so you won’t regret your outfit three slices into apple pie or miss out on an impromptu game of flag football.

  1. Fringe, feather, or anything that can find its way into the food. It may sound and look glamorous, but, there is nothing glamorous when reaching for the gravy and your outfit finds its way into the mashed potatoes.
  2. Body-con or bandage dresses. You should be enjoying the massive amounts of food and laughter happening around the table, not worrying if you food baby will be peaking through. Plus, you can end up torturing your gut and restricting it from properly digesting.
  3. Strappy, 6-inch heels. Wobbling around the dinner table, whether from painful blisters or too many glasses of wine, can lead to no good. You’ll be too worried about your feet to enjoy the day. Not to mention, there is definitely no joining in a friendly game of football.

So, you’ve avoided these three pieces of clothing, what’s left to wear? Here are couple outfits from my Instagram to give you holiday inspiration…

Dressing up denim

What do neon yellow, geometric patterns, and denim have in common? They make for a fantastic outfit! Denim shirts are a staple for every closet. I personally own four, all of varying shades; ranging from dark wash with studs, to pale and lightweight.

For this particular outfit I used my medium washed Else denim button up and added a RACHEL Rachel Roy geometric skirt, both from Macy’s clearance last summer. The skirt is made of a thicker, sweater material, giving the outfit a relaxed feeling. You can always tell when a woman feels relaxed and comfortable in an outfit, it shines through.

Accessorizing is the key to dressing denim up or down. In this case, I used colorful heels and earrings to keep it more chic and flirty. I also added several bracelets from Alex and Ani. I’ll definitely be doing another post highlighting this great jewelry company, I can’t rave enough about their stylish bracelets.

My next item I’m on my list is a denim dress. There is one inparticular that I spotted during my last trip to the Forever 21, the “Buttoned Denim Shirt Dress” in medium denim.

I’d love to know what else everyone is stocking up on as the warm weather arrives. What is your denim must-have this summer?

Birthday Treat For My Feet

Today is my birthday, so I decided to treat myself to a new pair of shoes. A group of friends and I are heading to a local winery, Four Daughters, for a relaxed evening of good laughs, mouth-watering food, and amazing wine. It was obvious that a new pair of shoes was necessary.

I have been mourning over the price of the Valentino ‘Rockstud’ Pumps for months, disappointed they would never be attached to my feet. However, after late night browsing online, I stumbled upon a pair of similar heels from LuLu‘s. Their price was perfect for a small budget like mine, and they looked practically identical! I ALMOST prefer the LuLu’s pair over the Valentino because of the heel height. The higher the heel the better, as I always say.

I immediately ordered them and have been patiently awaiting their arrival; the anticipation growing each day that passed without them being dropped off on my doorstep.

Finally, yesterday was the day! After haphazardly ripping open the box with full blown excitement, a beautiful pair of stone studded t-strap pointed heels emerged, just as perfect as they looked online.

I am extremely pleased with the price, fit, and style of these shoes. A little off-brand never hurt anyone, especially when it is as lovely as this pair that I’m about to parade around town in.

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my feet!

Peace, love, and fashion happiness,

Lauren

ps I’ll be posting more pictures on my Instagram later tonight, @outfitaday365.

UPDATE:

Here is the gorgeous daytime outfit I have assembled to display my new heels around town. Not to mention it’s 80 degrees and sunny, one of the most beautiful days this year. Happy me!

Evening of glitz and glamour

There are not many times that you can attend a black tie event, especially when you are on a tighter budget. So, when I was given the chance to snag two tickets to the annual Chair Affair After Glow Party, supporting the local Boys and Girls Club, I jumped at the chance.

As always, I rushed to Macy’s for a last minute formal dress and accessories. Scouring through the racks I quickly became discouraged. There was not much to choose from, and the sizes left behind were 10x too large. Then a hint of sparkle caught my eye buried within several dresses. My heart leapt with excitement as I pulled out a stunning clearance gown IN MY SIZE! In addition, I found a beautiful clearance bracelet and earrings to match perfectly. With the help of reduced prices and a 25% off coupon, I got my entire outfit for less than $110 that would have normally been $400! You can’t beat 75% savings!

The event was amazing; an excellent DJ that kept attendees dancing late into the night, delicious food and beverages, and the community coming together for a great cause. Over $300,000 was raised to help the local youth! I’m already looking forward to next year with my handsome date…

Night of Flowers and Love

Hard to believe Valentine’s Day was a week ago. The night flew by and I didn’t even have time to admire the special outfit I planned. It was a romantic evening, filled with candles and live jazz at Hell’s Kitchen, and needed to be accompanied by the perfect outfit.

Floral Print + Red Lips + Sky High Heels = The PERFECT Outfit

After scouring my closet and snagging an “on sale” Bar III dress from Macy’s, I created this lovely outfit.

Hope everyone had a wonderful evening, filled with decadent desserts and lots of love!

365 Days, 365 Different Outfits

I was extremely particular on my Instagram (Outfit_a_Day_365) journey. Post every day, no repeat outfits, and whenever possible, add color or sparkle. It wasn’t an easy feat, and included lots of awkward moments and last minute posts.

Constantly begging people to take a perfect daily picture for Instagram became old quite quickly. Falling asleep at night and then waking suddenly realizing that I forgot to post my outfit from earlier was annoying. But, at the same time I loved every second of it. Mulling around my closet every evening became my favorite part of the day, attempting to find a great outfit for tomorrow.

I saw my closet in a new light. At least 60% of my clothes weren’t even being worn; blouses I never knew existed, skirts I didn’t think matched anything, and jackets that never saw the light of day. I knew that to not repeat an outfit (or spend hundreds of dollars trying to do so) I would have to utilize the back of my closet, the forgotten pieces.

Nevertheless, it was exciting, and I loved every minute of it. But, now I am beginning a new journey, transitioning from Instagram to blogging. And this is where it has brought me.

New year, new beginning, and MANY more new outfits!

Peace, love, and fashion happiness,

Lauren

I’ll stop wearing black when they invent a darker color.

I have a thing for the color black, the perfect neutral. Add a bright pop of color or keep it monochromatic, it’s the easiest color. The way I see it, black is the new black.

This outfit was a simple transition from work to play, especially with the structured motorcycle jacket. I added small touches of gold in the accessories, another favorite staple color of mine.

What makes this outfit even better were the price tags. If you keep your eyes peeled this holiday season, the sales are phenomenal. The Kensie high-low dress was less than $10, and the Impulse jacket was $21; both from Macy’s clearance racks. Add a chic statement necklace and belt to accentuate the waist, which brings everything together nicely.

Like I said, easy and not too extravagant for a “just-out-of-college, first time homeowner” budget like mine.

Peace, love, and fashion happiness,

Lauren

-The slim belt was from Forever 21, and the necklace from Dry Goods clearance. Both I have had for quite some time.
